Food Collection starts in April

Published: March 12, 2026

Think your food waste and general rubbish end up in the same place? They don’t! What if your leftover plate scrapings could power your home? ⚡
When we throw food in the general waste, we throw away a valuable resource. By separating our leftovers in the new weekly food waste caddies, we turn them into: Renewable energy to power our communities. Nutrient-rich fertiliser for local farms, parks, and open spaces.
What to throw in your caddy:
You can recycle all types of food waste, cooked or raw:
🍎 Fruit & veg peelings
🍗 Meat & fish (including bones!)
🍝 Leftovers & plate scrapings
☕ Tea bags & coffee grounds
🥚 Bread, eggshells, and dairy
🍄 Mouldy or out-of-date food (just remove the packaging!)
Start using your caddy every week to turn your food waste into something useful! Find out more at: staffordshire.gov.uk/foodwaste
The change will see food waste collected on a weekly frequency from properties across East Staffordshire from 30th March 2026.
