Tutbury Parish Council
Tutbury is a large picturesque village in Staffordshire, it is known for the remains of a medieval Castle. It is a thriving community with a population of around 3500. Currently we have 11 councillors.
A councillor’s role is voluntary and involves attending meetings to discuss parish matters. The clerk is the only paid employee. Parish councils are the first tier of Local Government to ensure that community needs and services are met. Tutbury Parish Council works with the East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County council in representing the local issues.
Governance and Administration
Tutbury Parish Council strives to comply with current legislation in their role in local government this includes:
- Commenting on planning applications and Local Plan policies
- Liaising with the council Borough and County council on matters relating to housing, the environment, local services, speeding and parking around Tutbury
- Managing public money attained through the precept and ensuring that this is spent under current powers of the council
Current facilities that Tutbury Parish Council provides and are involved in:
- Provision of the changing rooms and football pitch at Cornmill Lane
- Maintenance of parish footpaths and the closed churchyard
- Provision of Ferrers Avenue Playing Field
- Community projects and initiatives, supports community events and organisations through a grant awarding scheme

Help Shape the Future of Tutbury & Hatton Station

Tutbury Parish Council is delighted to be working in partnership with the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership (NSCRP), Hatton Parish Council, and Tutbury Museum on an exciting project to celebrate the history of Tutbury & Hatton Railway Station.
The partnership is currently developing a series of station history boards that will tell the story of the station, its heritage, and historical overviews of Hatton and Tutbury. We hope to have the draft designs completed by the autumn and look forward to sharing more information as the project progresses.
Alongside the history boards, the Community Rail Partnership is continuing its work to improve the station environment. Plans include developing a more sustainable, bee-friendly garden, exploring sponsorship opportunities to support its long-term maintenance, and involving local schools in future art and community projects. A community planting day is also being planned to help create an attractive and welcoming station for residents and visitors alike.
Could You Become a Station Volunteer?
The North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership is looking for Volunteer Station Adopters to help care for Tutbury & Hatton Station.
Volunteers can contribute, depending on their interests, skills, and availability. Opportunities include:
- Gardening and watering station planters.
- Litter picking and helping to keep the station tidy.
- Supporting community projects and events.
As a small not-for-profit organisation, the Community Rail Partnership relies on the enthusiasm and support of local volunteers. Every contribution helps make the station a more welcoming place for passengers and the wider community.
Anyone wishing to become a Station Adopter will receive a safety briefing from East Midlands Railway (EMR) before getting started.
