Temporary Path Closure – St Marys Church Castle Street Steps
Published: February 10, 2026
Due to essential repair works to the church wall, the footpath from Church Street with steps access is temporarily closed for public safety for approximately 3 weeks. Heavy stones and the soil bank currently present a hazard along this route.
The historic dry-stone wall needs to be carefully rebuilt. These essential repairs are being funded by Tutbury Parish Council.
The church remains open to pedestrians via:
➡️ the east path off Monk Street
➡️ the gate from Castle Street/Triangle
Both the Parochial Church Council and Tutbury Parish Council
apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The path will be reopened as soon as it is practicable to do so, although exact timescales cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of the work and current weather conditions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

🗳️ HAVE YOUR SAY: The Future of Our Local Council
The government is planning to replace our current County and District councils with new “Unitary” authorities by April 2028. There are 5 different proposals on the table, and they change who manages our services in East Staffordshire.
🔍 Summary of the 5 Proposals (East Staffs Perspective)
| Proposal | What it means for East Staffordshire |
| 1. North & South Split | We join a large “South Staffordshire” council with Stafford, Cannock Chase, Lichfield, Tamworth, and South Staffs. |
| 2. East & West Split | We join an “East Staffordshire” council covering a huge area including Lichfield, Tamworth, the Moorlands, and Stoke-on-Trent. |
| 3. Three-Way Split | We join a more localized “South-East Staffordshire” council with just Lichfield and Tamworth. |
| 4. The “Parish” Split | A unique plan where Uttoxeter and 15 nearby parishes join a North council, while Burton and the rest of the borough join a South East council. |
| 5. Four-Way Split | Similar to the Three-Way split, we would be part of a “South-East” council with Lichfield and Tamworth. With the addition of Newcastle as the fourth unitary council. |

Cornmill Lane Car Park closed 10th Feb

🚗 Cornmill Lane Car Park – Temporary Closure 🚫
East Staffordshire Borough Council has informed us that vegetation works are required at Cornmill Lane, including cutting back and removal of brambles.
To allow this work to take place safely and without obstruction, the car park will be closed on Tuesday 10th February.
🪧 Advance warning signs will be erected next week to inform residents of the closure.
We would be grateful if residents could make alternative parking arrangements for that day so the works can be completed.
Thank you for your cooperation.
